Foodie calls: dating for a free meal (rather than a relationship)

When it comes to dating, there is a lot of possibilities that people can present themselves and their interest in any number of ways. One of the newer phenomena is a ‘foodie call’ where a person sets up a date with someone they are not romantically attracted to, but for a purpose of getting a free meal. A new research finds out that 23-33% women in an online study say they have/are engaged in a ‘foodie call’. Upon further analysis, the social and personality psychology researcher found that women who scored high on the ‘dark triad’ of personality traits (i.e. psychopathy, Machiavellianism, narcissism), as well as expressed tradition of gender role beliefs, were most likely to engage in a foodie call and find it acceptable. The study was conducted in 2 groups of women. In both the studies the women were asked a series of questions that measured their personality traits, beliefs and their foodie call history. They were also asked if they though foodie call was socially acceptable. For both groups, those that engaged in foodie calls scored higher in the ‘Dark triad’ personality traits. The Researchers also noted that foodie calls could occur in many types of relationships, could be perpetrated by all genders.
