Samantha: “My Fan base is more Interested in Fashion and Entertainment Than Mental Health”

Samantha Ruth Prabhu, a leading actress, feels it is hard to spread awareness about mental health. She will be 37 on 28 April this year. She is not only known as a famous face in the film industry but also for her commitment to making people aware of physical and mental well-being. 

Recently she opened up about how difficult it is to raise awareness about mental health in a podcast. Having a wide fan following, she found that her fans are more interested in content regarding entertainment, fashion and others rather than mental and physical well-being. 

The actress was diagnosed with Myositis in 2022. It is a rare autoimmune disease that affects the body’s muscles. The immune system of the body gets affected which can damage muscle tissues. As a result, the patient suffered from muscle weakness, fatigue and Her condition was so bad she had to take a break from her thriving career and faced a lot of emotional breakdowns which made her realize how mental and physical health are closely bonded together. “You can’t be healthy physically if you are not looking after your mental health and the two go hand-in-hand. That’s why I strongly advocate for just following a few simple practices that help with good mental health and in turn good physical health,”  she said.

She has always been open about her spiritual and holistic healing journey to her fans. Also, she tried to encourage her fans to focus on their physical and mental health and started a podcast known as Take 20.

The actress said about the problems she faced in her journey, “I have a fan base that is probably more interested in entertainment, fashion, make-up. So, making that transition into health, and advocating mental health is not an easy one. I have to change perceptions and that takes time but it’s okay,” Though she found the process challenging, she decided to carry this on for herself and her followers.
