Acts of Service: Individuals who prefer service acts (doing something), like helping them out with a difficult task, household chores, cooking a meal, or undertaking tasks without even being asked, are said to have ‘Acts of Service’ as their love language. It shows them that they are valued and that their partners are willing to make an effort to support them.
  3. Receiving Gifts: For some people, receiving Gifts makes them feel loved. It is not about the monetary value of the gift, but the efforts and thoughtfulness of their partners. Each gift is a representative of their partner’s expression of love towards them.
  4. Quality Time: Spending quality time together is another Love Language Chapman spoke about. It is about spending time together. The word ‘Quality’ emphasises characteristics like providing undivided attention, engaging in deep conversations, doing an activity together, and prioritising each other’s company.
  5. Physical Touch: Physical Touch is characterised by physical contact. This may include kisses, hugs, cuddling or as simple as holding hands. For people with physical touch as a love language, it marks a connection between partners, a sense of security, love, affection and comfort.

Although Chapman has described 5 love languages, individuals can prefer one or more than one language of expression of love. It is important to understand which of the love languages is preferred by your partner. Speaking your partner’s love language can foster connection, and emotional intimacy, and strengthen the bond.

Create Couple Rituals

Start your ritual. These rituals can be simple daily habits, weekly traditions, or annual events that hold significance for the relationship. These rituals can be as simple as enjoying breakfast together making a DIY project together or celebrating milestones.
