Prof. Jagannath Prasad Das is an Indo-Canadian educational psychologist and have an interest in educational psychology, intelligence and childhood development. He has a BA in Psychology/Philosophy (Utkal University, 1951), an MA in Experimental Psychology (Patna University, 1953), PhD in Psychology (University of London, 1957). His professional journey has taken him through various esteemed institutions and roles. He served as a Lecturer at Utkal University from 1953 to 1955, progressing to a Reader from 1958 to 1963. From there, he contributed as a Professor at George Peabody College of Teachers in Nashville from 1963 to 1964, and subsequently as a Visiting Associate Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, from 1964 to 1965. During his tenure in Canada, Prof. Das held the position of Research Professor at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, from 1968 to 1971. Following this, he assumed the role of Director of the Centre for the Study of Mental Retardation from 1972 to 1994. Since 1994, Prof. Das has continued his impactful career as a Professor at the University of Alberta, contributing significantly to the field of educational psychology. He received an Honorary Doctorate in Psychology from the University of Cyprus in Nicosia in September 2015. He also won the Canadian Psychological Association Award for International Advancement of Psychology in 2014. He holds a Doctor of Psychology degree (honoris causa) and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (FRSC) since 1999. Among his achievements are the Immigration Achievement Award in 1992 and the University of Alberta Research Prize in 1987. He was invited as a participant to UNESCO conferences on Disadvantaged Children and policies relating to children in 1981 and 1979 respectively. He also organized the NATO Conference on Intelligence and Learning in York, England in 1979. Additionally, His extensive publications include contributions to prestigious national and international journals such as the Indian Journal of Psychology, International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, British Journal of Psychology, Indian Journal of Mental Retardation, British Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology, and the Canadian Journal of Behavioral Science. He has also presented his work at the XIXth International Congress in Psychology in London. Currently, he continues to contribute as a writer to Psychologs Magazine.
