2 die by suicide in Bengal after India loses in World Cup final

Two people allegedly died by suicide in Bengal’s Bankura and Odisha’s Jajpur on Sunday night of the World Cup final, after India lost to Australia in the cricket finals. Rahul Lohra, 23, working at a clothing store committed suicide near the cinema hall in the Beliatore police station area of Bankura. This incident took place around 11 pm on Sunday.

His brother-in-law, Uttam Sur said, “he took a leave from the store to watch the final match, but found himself in his room”. It was too disheartening for him to see Rahul in this state. Otherwise, there was no such problem in his life, his brother claimed. He was sent immediately to Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital on Monday early morning. Where he was examined for a post-mortem report. Police said, “ It was registered as an unnatural death and there was no one at the house when the incident took place”.

In Odisha’s Jaipur, Dev Ranjan Das, 23, was also found hanging on the terrace of his room in the Binjharpur area. He also attempted suicide at evening of the match after the loss of the India team. His uncle said, “he was going with treatment for emotional disorder syndrome” and his family member said after the match, he found himself in high despair and left the home without any response. The officer in charge of Jari Outpost said, “We have registered the case and are awaiting the autopsy report” The results are still awaited.
