Two credit courses introduced in PhD

UGC recently published a notice on 26th Dec, 2019 regarding the pre-registration coursework of PhD students, after their 543rd meeting on 9th Aug, 2019. Notice is to request the vice-chancellors of all universities for ensuring two credit courses for awareness about publication ethics and misconducts to be made compulsory for all PhD students’ pre-registration coursework from the upcoming academic session. This course has total 6 units. Hands-on-sessions are designed to identify research misconduct and predatory publications. Course will include classroom teaching, guest lectures, practical sessions and group discussion and will be evaluated by continuous assessment through tutorials, quizzes, group discussions and assignments. There will be weightage for active participation and at the end of course, final written examination will be conducted.

COURSE TITLE: Research and Publication Ethics (RPE)

TOPICS INTRODUCED: Philosophy of science and ethics, research integrity, publication ethics.

TOOLS INTRODUCED: Indexing and citation databases, open access publications, plagiarism, research metrics (citation, h-index, impact factor, etc.)

COURSE LEVEL: Two credit course (30 hours)

FEES: As per university rules

ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES: M.Phil. , PhD students and interested faculty members.

QUALIFICATION OF FACULTY MEMBERS OF THIS COURSE: PhD in relevant subject areas having more than 10 years of teaching experience.
