RINPAS is a tertiary care centre and one of the largest mental health institutions in Eastern India. Every year they organize this picnic program for patients outside the main campus of the institution. This year, they took around 150 patients and along with them, staff members to participate in the picnic.
The annual picnic involved a buffet serving catered from RINPAS kitchen and a small entertainment session had music, dance and games arranged for the patients. On the occasion of the new year, the patients are engaged in such activities. The venue was RINPAS Bagan, Kanke, Ranchi. All the administrative staff, faculty, helping staff, DNB, PhD and M.Phil scholars also the interns took part in the program.
The Patients are given time to walk around the 100 acres of land where they have poultry farms, dairy farms, and fisheries, and there are plenty of cultivation fields for growing vegetables and other types of crops. The Patients are allowed to move around, enjoy, and have a relaxing experience.
Amool Ranjan Singh, Head of Department (Clinical Psychology) at RINPAS, told Psychologs, “The patients who are here for a longer period of time, chronic cases, They do not get the opportunity to go out. This is a very good opportunity for them to go out, see the world, meet people, interact, and enjoy things. So that is why we organize it every year. So one, it’s therapeutic in nature in the sense that gives them a Meaning that they are part of the large society. Number two, they get the opportunity to do different activities on their own because they are given free time.”
