From early laboratories to contemporary therapy rooms and digital ecosystems, the science of psychology has continually transformed and expanded in response to changing contexts in which people live. Psychology, from its conception, has been interested in understanding human beings and the world we inhabit; however, what counts as “understanding” has changed considerably acoss it’s temporal, cultural, and contextual contours.
Today, the discipline is guided by ethics rooted in universal human rights and affirmative practice. Yet, the development of psychological thought has never been a single man’s work. The exchange of ideas, perspectives, and methodologies has been central to its growth. It is in this spirit of intellectual exchange that Amity University, Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) brings you the First Mid-Term National Conference of the Indian Association of Clinical Psychologists (IACP), 2026 on the 8-9th October, 2026 centered around the theme: “Psychology Beyond Boundaries: Emerging Trends and Future Applications.”

Organised by the Department of Clinical Psychology, Amity Institute of Behavioral and Allied Sciences (AIBHAS), Amity University, Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh), in collaboration with the Indian Association of Clinical Psychologists (IACP), this conference brings togather clinical psychologists and other mental health practitioners, researchers, academics, educators, scholars, and students from different parts of the country to provide a platform for examining contemporary developments in psychology and their implications for its practice.
Aiming to reflect upon one of the most fundamental questions within the field of psychology, i.e. “Can psychology as a science remain confined to the boundaries within which it has traditionally operated?”, this conference is organised as an extension of the larger academic vision of its host, the Department of Psychology within Amity Institude of Behavioral and Allied Sciences, Amity University, Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh). Established in 2011, AIBAS inculcates in its scholars a competent, reflective, and ethical attitude towards mental health as an academic discipline and medical-adjacent practice, shaping them into practitioners who can respond to the changing world of psychology and people.
This Mid-Term National Conference of the Indian Association of Clinical Psychologists, 2026, is envisioned not as a mere scientific gathering, but as an opportunity for professionals in the field to collectively reflect upon the place psychology occupies in academic and public imagination, as well as what role it stands to play in the future of humanity, in line with the londstanding traditions of the IACP, the primacy body representing clinical psychology as a discipline and profession in India. Founded in 1968, the IACP has contributed to strengthening the identity and practice of clinical psychology through an emphasis on professional practice, education, research, ethics, and their dissemination. It encourages dialogues between professionals, academics, and the larger world where clinical psychology is practised.

Therefore, this conference strives to understand the deeply embedded and contextual nature of psychology in relation to contemporary developments in social, cultural, technological, political, and economic domains, as well as invite conversation and meaningful debate on the changing patterns of human interaction and the ethical responsibilities of a profession so intrinsically tied to individual well-being and desire for life.
As such, “moving beyond boundaries” is not a shorthand for dismissal of the foundations of psychology, but a conscious step towards its adaptation to the world it currently inhabits. At it’s heart, the theme speaks to the need of psychology to be a self-reflective and self-critical discipline, to move away from academic and intellectual complacency and ask the hard questions, especially when the answers require reevaluation of what we have thus far believed as truth.
Where existing frameworks no longer suffice, progress may even require us to leave them behind. Therefore, the scientific programme of this conference will provide a multidisciplinary platform for the exploration of contemporary developments across clinical psychology and mental health, with discussion extending across therapeutic approaches, psychological assessments, technology and artificial intelligence, child and adolescent mental health, social and community psychology, and other evolving areas of psychological practice. It seeks to create an atmosphere of intellectual curiosity and exchange that extends beyond the walls of AIBAS, and permeates the conversations around research, practice, and education.

Consequently, “Psychology Beyond Boundaries” is an invitation to conceptualise the discipline and practice as integrated, contextual, ethical and ever-evolving while maintaing its core purpose: to understand the human experience in all its nuanced complexity and use that understanding to promote individual, relational, community, and social well-being; to be guided by universal moral and ethical values and move beyond disciplinary and personal prejudices, biases, and of course, boundaries.
