A Teenage runner with Down’s syndrome became the youngest person who created history to complete the marathon in the learning disability category. Lloyd Martin, at the age of 19, clinched his dream by completing the London Marathon with the guidance of his mother, Ceri Hooper. Guinness World Records created the challenge for Lloyd and awarded him a certificate upon completion.
His family is from Cardiff and her mother who is his guide, Ceri, stated that completing this marathon is accomplishing the dream for Lloyd and expressed that he ran continuously for 22.5km (14 miles), his longest distance yet which is truly an outstanding performance. She also mentioned that anything is possible if you make an effort with a bit of hard work. Furthermore, she expressed her and Lloyd’s feelings that they burst into tears after completing the finish, line and this achievement of Lloyd was crucial for people with Down’s syndrome.

Lloyd Martin is the 3rd Welsh Special Olympics athlete to run the London Marathon. The Special Olympics GB assisted him in creating a history in the marathon. Additionally, he is also a gymnast and footballer with the organization. Such achievements show a dream and Hard work is needed to defeat your challenges and create a history.
Down Syndrome
Down syndrome (DS), is one of the most prevalent genetic birth disorders and it occurs when an extra genetic material causes delays in the way a child develops mentally and physically. It is also known as Trisomy 21. Typically, 23 pairs of chromosomes exist in each cell of the human body, which holds the genetic information to determine all the inherent traits of the person. However, individuals with Down Syndrome possess an extra chromosome.
Down syndrome entails mild to moderate learning disabilities, developmental delays, distinctive facial features, and reduced muscle tone in early infancy. Additionally, many individuals with Down Syndrome have heart defects, early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, leukemia, gastrointestinal issues, and many other health concerns.

The prevention of Down Syndrome is not possible, however, it can be detected before the birth of a child and the health problems associated with DS can be treated, along with that there are resources available to help kids and their families affected by this condition.
