The power of dressing up

The power of dressing up has somehow always been underestimated. But what people don’t realise is that the first thing they notice about another person is their appearance and how well they carry themselves. That is the initial basis of character judgement, consciously or unconsciously, because everyone does that.

Dressing up is not only constituents to character judgement, but it also affects the emotions and behaviour of a person. For instance, someone who wears sweatpants and t-shirts all day long won’t be feeling very energetic and productive, as those are comfortable clothes, which automatically transcends a person into relaxation mode. But this would be opposite for someone wearing freshly ironed shirt and pants, which would make a person feel alert and active, and provide a sense of purpose for the day.

Besides all this, it has a huge impact on a person’s confidence level and self-esteem. When someone thinks that they are well dressed, they start feeling good about themselves, they doubt themselves less, they show more confidence in the way they speak and behave and stay positive most of the time. On the other hand, someone who is not comfortable with the way they are dressed or they feel that they don’t look as good as others, they doubt themselves constantly, they take a step back and try to hide in the crowd, they lack confidence when they talk to others and have low self-esteem as well.

All this not only affects the behaviour and emotions, but also the quality of life. A person who is always dressed well and is comfortable in what he/she wears, exhibits a lot more confidence and feel more positive in life, these kinds of people always push themselves towards achieving the desired goals and they try to overcome their obstacles smartly rather than giving up. They lead a happy and positive life in general. And on the other hand, people opposed to this are always a little apprehensive about themselves and they try to avoid getting in front of everyone’s attention, which makes them underconfident and they don’t stay very happy with themselves as they are always stuck when an obstacle arrives in their way.

Dressing up can do wonders for people once they find their comfort and their style, for example, a dull and sad person could feel excited and happy after wearing bright colours and accessories, which could encourage that person to do something productive which that person hasn’t been able to do. It’s not always about dressing up, dressing down could also be helpful for a lot of people. For example, if a person wears a lot of fun and bright colours to his/her office, people might not take that person very seriously and won’t really give that person a chance to bring forward their ideas, but if that person starts wearing mute colours which are stereotypically associated with office wear, then that person would be treated differently.

There are a lot of stylists these days that help out individuals in bringing out the best of themselves via clothes and accessories, based on their personality and profession. Which is always very useful for people. As we all know, the first impression is mostly the last, and we would all like to leave a positive impression on others always.
