The private jobs in today’s time have become so intensive and mentally exhausting that employees are facing mental health consequences, where some even take wrong steps. To combat that, Denver, a golden retriever, is the Chief Happiness Officer (CHO) at Harvesting Robotics, a startup in Hyderabad. Co-founder Rahul Arepaka shared the news on LinkedIn, saying, “He doesn’t code. He doesn’t care. He just comes in, endears himself to people and keeps the excitement going.” The project hopes to improve the well-being and morale of staff via a pet-friendly workplace. Denver is meant to alleviate stress and promote a healthy workplace. The announcement has already received hundreds of likes and positive comments online. This trend washed in with a wave of businesses deciding to bring pets to the office for higher productivity and employee happiness.

Co-parenting a dog is now an emerging trend among young couples these days. Most are opting for a pet, and most particularly a dog, instead of having a child while still in the early stages of their relationship. It is proof that there is a heightened awareness of the emotional support of pets. Dog, most especially, is regarded for its healing effect—it lowers stress levels, increases motivation, and raises happiness. These days, social media platforms are awash with endearing images and videos that demonstrate how dogs are reliable friends in addition to being pets.

Dogs are excellent emotional support in today’s hectic atmosphere as people often share their emotional experiences with them, and they, in turn, give you some slobbery licks and cuddly hugs back. Dog companionship can dramatically affect our emotional health. Our dogs can bring us instant, happy feelings, like never before, when we are feeling down, stressed, or just need a pick-me-up. According to a study in Psychology Today, oxytocin, sometimes known as the “love hormone”, is released just by having a dog around. This potent neurotransmitter fosters feelings
of contentment, happiness, and general well-being, giving our lives a deep sense of comfort and connection.

At times, initiating a new journey in life may be hard, but if you can endure the troubling times with a loyal four-legged friend, the road becomes less daunting. It is no surprise that our canine furry friends have amazing de-stressing characteristics, as a study published in the internationally esteemed Journal of Behavioural Medicine harnesses the understanding of a human-dog connection. The findings from the study of human-dog interactions indicate that having time with dogs could increase serotonin and dopamine, which are brain-regulating chemicals or natural mood enhancers, and also significantly lower cortisol, which is a known stress-related hormone.

A 2021 study named ‘Dogs at the Workplace: A Multiple Case Study’ indicated that employees viewed dog-friendly policies as a privilege and prestigious, resulting in a beneficial perception of the company. All employees sounded upbeat in their descriptions of their company with respect to the dog-friendly policy. The report also suggested that managers were aware of the broader impact of reducing or removing the dog-friendly policy. One manager interviewed explained, “If tomorrow we said the dog is not allowed, I would probably lose two employees.” He was referring to co-workers who had become particularly fond of the dog.

This point conveys the sense that dog-friendly policies are a means to follow through on employee retention and acquisition, the study explained. Whether they’re providing emotional support for a couple, helping employees reduce stress after a rough day at the office or providing companionship for new parents, dogs are quickly becoming the emotional allies vital to young couples and workers alike, offering comfort, happiness and emotional stability. The shared acceptance of our reliance on dogs, both as co-parents of pets within partnerships and now potentially using dogs like Denver as office morale and team connections, is a positive indication of a younger, more aware world, aware of dogs and, mental health benefits. Raising awareness and having a dog is vital and will not only enhance quality of life, but strengthen retention, performance, motivation and connection both as partners and as employees.
