SCB Medical College & Hospital, Cuttack

Dedicated to the memory of Srirama Chandra Bhanja, the SCB Medical College and Hospital is a public medical college in Cuttack, in the Indian state of Odisha. It is among the oldest medical education and training facilities in India. It is situated in the center of Cuttack, close to the Mangala Bag and Rani Hat neighborhoods. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted it recognition.

Currently, offline applications are being invited for admission to the M.Phil. Programs in Clinical Psychology and Psychiatric Social Work at SCB Medical College & Hospital, Cuttack for sessions 2023–2024.

Eligibility Criteria:

M.Phil. in Clinical Psychology:

With a minimum of 55% overall, candidates must have an M.A. or M.Sc. in psychology from a U.G.C. accredited institution by the closing date of November 20, 2023. A minimum of 50% overall is required for the ST/SC category.

M.Phil. in Psychiatric Social Work (PSW):

A post-graduate degree in social work with a minimum cumulative GPA of 55% from a university approved by the U.G.C. by the closing date of November 20, 2023. A minimum of 50% overall is required for the ST/SC category.

The aspirant must have a permanent residency in Odisha.

Total No. of Slots:

  • M.Phil. in Clinical Psychology (RCI Approved): 12 (ST-1 SC-1, UR-10)
  • M.Phil. in Psychiatric Social Work: 6 (ST-1 SC-1, UR-4)

Course Duration: 2 years.

Application Fee (non-refundable):
  • Rs. 1500/-
  • Enclosed with the application must be the original bank draft made payable to “Convener, M. Phil. Selection Committee, MHI, Cuttack”.
Document Enclosed with Application Form:
  • A self-attested copy of the resident or birth certificate, issued no earlier than five years ago by the appropriate authority.
  • Copy of H.S.C. Certificate with self-attestation.
  • Self-attested copies of M.A., M.Sc., MSW, or equivalent certificates and mark sheets.
  • A copy of the behavior certificate from the previous school attended, self-attested.
  • If applicable, a copy of the certificate from the appropriate authority supporting the reservation category, self-attested.
  • Two current, passport-sized photos (one must be attached to the application form and the other to the admissions card).
  • One 25 x 12 cm self-addressed envelope with a postage stamp of Rs. 42/-attached.
  • If applicable, a copy of the notification letter to the employer.

Selection Procedure:
  • The selection process will be based only on merit, as indicated by the scores received in the written exam, practical, and interview.
  • There will be a written exam with 90 marks, 90 multiple-choice questions, and questions on the M.A./M.Sc. in Psychology standard for M.Phil. students in Clinical Psychology course and the Post Graduate Degree in Social Work standard for M.Phil. students in Psychiatric Social Work course are 60 minutes long.
  • Erasing, cutting, or overwriting on the response sheet will result in a score of 0.
  • There will be a 10-point exam and practical.
  • A ratio of 1:3 for applicants from the unreserved category and 1:4 for those from the reserved category will determine who gets summoned for the interview and practical.
  • Qualifying Marks for Unreserved is 50% and for SC/ST it is 40%.
