The Department of Psychiatric Social Work at National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), in collaboration with the Department of Neurosurgery and the Clinical Neuro Psychology & Cognitive Neuroscience Centre, Department of Clinical Psychology, is organising a National Workshop on Neuro-Oncological Disorders: Psychosocial Management on June 5, 2026, in Bengaluru.

The workshop is intended for students, healthcare professionals, academicians, rehabilitation professionals, counsellors, social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and research scholars working in the fields of neuro-oncology, mental health, and allied healthcare sciences.

The programme aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of neuro-oncological disorders and the psychosocial challenges experienced by patients and caregivers. Participants will also gain exposure to psychosocial assessment methods, intervention strategies, rehabilitation approaches, and multidisciplinary care practices in neuro-oncology.

Workshop Highlights

The workshop will focus on:

  • Understanding neuro-oncological disorders
  • Psychosocial challenges faced by patients and caregivers
  • Psychological and social impact of neurological cancers
  • Psychosocial assessment techniques
  • Intervention and rehabilitation strategies
  • Multidisciplinary approaches in neuro-oncology care

The organisers emphasise that neuro-oncological disorders, including cancers affecting the brain, spinal cord, and nervous system, often result in significant psychological, emotional, behavioural, and social difficulties for both patients and their families. While medical advancements continue to improve treatment outcomes, psychosocial support remains a crucial component of holistic neuro-oncology care.
