Purple Fest 2026: Celebrated at the President’s Estate

Recently, Rashtrapati Bhavan hosted “Purple Fest” to celebrate the achievements, talent and aspirations of Divyangjan. On 13th March 2026, Amrit Udyan was exclusively open for Divyangjan (people with disabilities), wherein over 8,000 of them visited. Various organisations working with divyangjan have put up stalls of games and learning activities for fun. The individuals participated in the activities throughout the day. In the evening, a “Cultural program” was held at the Open Air Theatre in the President’s Estate. Incredible cultural performances were given by people with Disability showcasing their talent. The event was witnessed by President Smt. Droupadi Murmu. 

During the occasion, the President highlighted that India’s culture and civilisation include belief in harmony, inclusivity, and sensitivity. Also, it was stated that a country or society is defined by what they do towards marginalised and vulnerable sections and not just by the work they do towards privileged sections. To build an inclusive society, the empowerment of Divyangjan is crucial, according to the President. She also communicated that government efforts cannot solely achieve this. Every individual and institution in society needs to contribute by actively participating in the inclusion of the Divyangjan at every level.

What is Purple Fest? 

The fest is organised annually by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The goal of the fest is to raise awareness about different disabilities and the impact it had on individuals’ lives. Thus, promoting understanding, acceptance and inclusion of people with disabilities. Under the constitution directive principles, Divyangjan has the right to work, education and public assistance granted by state policy.

A collective goal has been set by the government of India under the name of Viksit Bharat. Viksit Bharat aims to transform India into a fully developed and self-reliant nation. The vision comes with the 100th Anniversary of Independent India. One of the major factors in development is the empowerment of marginalised people, and this festival promotes the plan of the country.
