Professor Miles Hewstone gave a lecture on Promoting Positive intergroup relations at IIT, Kanpur

On 3rd November 2023, the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur hosted a lecture, where British Social Psychologist Miles Hewstone presented a lecture on the topic “Intergroup contact as a tool for promoting positive intergroup relations: lessons from a research career.” Participant mentioned that the lecture was informative and the interactive session inspired them to challenge their knowledge system.

Professor Miles Hewstone

Professor of Social Psychology at Oxford University has been honored as a Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and is widely recognized for his contributions to the study of social relations, prejudice, stereotyping, and intergroup contact. He has published many articles and books in the field of experimental social psychology, where major topics of research have been: attribution theory, social cognition, social influence, stereotyping and intergroup relations, and intergroup conflict.

His current work centred around the reduction of intergroup conflict, stereotype change, and crossed categorization. He has also published many books based on his work in social psychology.

Professor Braj Bhushan, Professor of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences wrote, “It was a privilege hosting Professor Miles Hewstone, University of Oxford. He delivered the second Prabha & Ramadhar Singh Distinguished Lecture on November 3, 2023”.
