Recent LinkedIn research has revealed that Gen Z struggles to find effective employment opportunities due to low confidence and lack of guidance. The study has shown that a majority of youth lose critical networking opportunities because they are afraid to ask for help. More than half of India’s present population is Gen Z. According to the Financial Express, 83% of Indian Gen Z professionals are afraid of contacting seniors for employment guidance or potential networking. The LinkedIn report said 52% of the interviewees did not know where or how to start, while 44% were afraid of being judged.

The Possible Causes

LinkedIn reported several causes as to why Gen Z feel unsure about the job market. Among the reasons were low confidence, fear of judgment, disturbing others by asking for networking advice and guidance and assuming the worst possible outcomes.

Lack of Confidence

The report has revealed that a large majority of Gen Z do not have the confidence to create meaningful connections. Reason: nobody has guided them on the topic. Several of them report having anxiety about asking other senior professionals or peers for help, fearing judgment. There is also a fear of bothering someone else. Such a mindset blocks the individual from discovering or exploring connections that could help drive their growth and career in positive ways.

Anticipating Negative Outcomes

A lack of confidence leads to overthinking and negative perceptions of their own ability, which creates a huge deficit in their career prospects. Assumptions seem to block effective steps in creating positive outcomes. The act of assuming something will not work out has been discovered by research to be an extension of insecurity that is nothing more than a crippling illusion.

Judgment and Self-Pressure

The assumption that seeking guidance from others is disruptive or intrusive is something that may need reflection and change. The data also revealed that many Millennial and Gen Z individuals have shown a willingness to help and guide Gen Z. This highlights the negative impacts of overthinking and assumptions on work and growth. There seems to be more energy spent on assuming the worst possible outcomes than actually discovering ways to overturn that way of thinking and find positive solutions. The LinkedIn report seems to shed light on a crippling issue that is barricading positive growth and implementation of effective work strategies in Gen Z. However, while negative challenges do exist, there are also equally empowering solutions that will help subvert these blockages into wins.

Creating A Healthy Online Diet

Just as our body needs healthy food, our mind also needs positive supplements to stay healthy and active. Following pages and individuals who promote content that helps boost self-esteem and confidence can prove to be a major shareholder in future success. The attempt to imbibe and follow content that helps boost inner growth can have significant impacts outside. This includes following pages and people who empower mindset growth, self-confidence, lifestyle changes and capable routines.

Starting Small Can Become Big

There is a misconception that only big steps can bring big results, which pushes individuals to further stress and anxiety in work settings. In a highly competitive world, youth feel the need to constantly prove themselves in work environments, which can create a negative impact. Instead of waiting for a big break, interacting with possible contacts through social media outreach has proven extremely effective. Liking their posts, commenting with questions or merely sharing posts will create a social media image and algorithm shift more than staying silent and observing. LinkedIn data has shown higher chances of a connection request and message if they interact with a post from their connections.

Conclusion

“Where there is a will, there is a way” is a quote that is probably more needed today than ever before. The LinkedIn report only proves that with the right motivation, guidance and self-trust, Gen Z can overcome this networking hurdle. Reaching out is nothing to be ashamed of, and with a senior workforce that is more than happy to help, Gen Z must make the first move and trust that their ability as History’s most tech-worthy generation will help them move forward.
